Walter Shapiro Walter Shapiro is a regular columnist for USA Today as well as Esquire's chief White House correspondent. Formerly a senior writer for Time Magazine, he was Time's top political writer, having covered both the 1988 and 1992 presidential campaigns. Shapiro has been a general editor at Newsweek, a reporter for the Washington Post, the editor for the Washington Monthly and a reporter with the Congressional Quarterly. Shapiro is currently writing a book on President Clinton's foreign policy. In addition, he was elected as a Fellow with with the US-Japan Society in 1991-92. Shapiro holds a BA from the University of Michigan.
